Vesta 50 Club welcomes new members

vesta 50 club

“We like buying boats and winning prizes!”

Incredibly Vesta 50 Club has been running for more than 40 years and this year Harry Prior, its outstanding faithful steward has handed over the reigns to Dick Welch. The club is very grateful to both gentleman for running the club. It has been amazingly fruitful when it comes to buying Vesta boats, something we all love!

So it is a ripe time to begin a recruitment drive for new members. If you’re new to Vesta and don’t know much about Vesta 50 Club, please read the introduction here. If you’ve been a member for a long time and have never got around to setting up a standing order, do it now! Email Dick to sign up on to subscribe for just £7 a month. (It’s nothin’ peoples!)

We will be posting the monthly draw winners on the 50 Club page, tweeting as well as chalking them up on the old-fashioned bar blackboard!

NEW Classified listings section!

New Vesta club classifiedsExciting news! We have just put live a new Club Classifieds section here. Perfect for selling / looking for boats / sculling blades /training equipment, or for finding a flat / flatmate… but not for finding your mate a girlfriend…

The great news is that any Vesta member (or friend) can post a listing. All listings are moderated by a site administrator, i.e. me (and Laurence). All replies to ads have to go via the website to protect the poster’s contact details. There is also spam protection on it. Each listing has a default lifetime of 30 days and there is a reminder to tell the poster when their ad expires.

Once we have genuine listings posted I will push these onto the home page in a feed to ensure that they are seen by members. Plus, I promise to mention them in the all-vesta newsletters too. Let me know if you have any other questions. Email

Subscribe to Vesta’s news using RSS Feed

rss-icon-772x250I’ve been asked if you can get the latest posts from this beautiful Vesta Rowing Club website in a feed that you can subscribe to. The answer is YES OF COURSE!

This means that you don’t have to keep checking the website to see if it’s changed. You can simply get the news headlines sent to your computer screen as and when updates happen.

All you have to do is go to and then you can subscribe to the feed either using a Feed Reader that you may have already or can install, e.g. through Google Reader, Yahoo or whatever.

I’ve also added the icon on the right side bar for you to use in the future.

I hope this helps you, kids.

Safety Briefing on Thursday 13th December

Fog on the Thames

Well I wouldn't recommend going out in this...

There will be a safety briefing this Thursday at 8.30pm. Attendance is compulsory for all new members and all who steer boats. All active members are also encouraged to attend.  It is timed so that the squad members can attend after training and eat their Thursday food during the briefing. The talk will take 30 minutes and will be given by Tony Reynolds, who, in addition to helping with coaching at Vesta, is the Thames Region Water Safety Advisor.

The safety briefing will enable you to make the best decisions when rowing and coxing on the tidal Thames. It is a very unpredictable stretch of water that is shared by many users in different craft and you need to know how to react when faced with the unexpected. You may be a perfect steersperson, but that’s not to say you might come across someone who is not. Remember… “Never underestimate the stupidity of other people“.

Scullers Head Instructions

The instructions for competitors, course map and map of the start and finish illustrating the marshalling that will be in place are all now available here. We apologise they are a little late, due to delays outside our control.
