Our Objectives for 2010/11

We have three aims at Vesta Rowing Club: to develop our members and athletes to enable them to achieve their highest possible level of performance in the sport, to make a significant contribution to rowing, and to continue to grow what is a wonderfully friendly Club.

We have had some incredible results over the past couple of seasons, and continue to aim for excellence at every level.  We take great pride in being able to offer a structure that provides the opportunity for progression and success at every level, from novice to senior to masters.

Our Club is run by its members for their mutual benefit, and we hope that all our members are able to contribute to the Club and the sport in any number of ways.

You will find further information on our squads: senior, development and masters (aka veteran) below.  Information regarding membership can be found here.

The Club includes members with a wide range of rowing and non-rowing experience, from those who have recently joined Vesta from school or university to those who have competed at Henley Royal Regatta as club members in the 1950s. We presently have over 300 Members, evenly split between active and honorary (non-rowing) members.

The rowing at Vesta is organised into four main squads. Whilst the arrangements are still being finalised for the coming season 2010/11, it is expected that the squads will be as follows:

Men’s Senior Squad
Women’s Senior Squad
Men’s Novice Squad
Women’s Novice Squad

How Do I Become a Member?

The Club offers three levels of membership, with annual subscriptions for the 2009/10 season as follows:

  • – Active Member: £425, payable by all rowing members, whether they are part of a squad or not (N.B. active membership does not of itself entitle a member to coaching)
  • – Student Member: £150, students must be in a full time higher education course for the duration of the season
  • – Honorary Member: £60, available to all ’social’ members, coxes and coaches who do not actively row
  • – Cadet: £25, honorary junior member
  • – Rack (single scull): £160, holders of a rack must also pay the full Active Member subscription

All new members are expected to fill in a membership form before boating from the Club. This covers the Club for a number of issues including insurance. Within the first four weeks of rowing with Vesta, you may row effectively for free. However, at the end of that period you will be expected to pay the sum of of £125 towards your annual subscription fee, with the balance paid either by Direct Debit or further cheque.

Election is by simple majority of the Executive Committee.
