A message from the organising committee: Apologies for the delay in producing the results, we normally try to publish within 2 hours of the last boat crossing the line, but several blanket finishes needed extra attention and close review of video evidence, which took its time for us to work through. We appreciate that we’ve raised people’s expectations with our normal prompt publication and we hope interested parties appreciate the causes for today’s delay.

As at 14:00 today (27 November) the race is STILL ON. We are closely monitoring the weather forecast but owing to the predicted wind direction we will not be in a position to make a final decision on the race until tomorrow morning.

The organisers appreciate your understanding in this.

Mike joined Vesta as a school boy, then during his National Service, went on to cox for the RAF and to win the Thames Cup at Henley with them before returning to Vesta in peacetime.

Mike’s contributions to Vesta both on and off the water since then have been invaluable, and he continues to help the club every year at both the Scullers’ and Veterans’ Heads.

The dinner was attended by the Vice Presidents and other guests, and was hosted by Don Anderson who presented Mike with a engraved tankard to mark the occasion.

Speeches were made, the highlight being Mike’s which ended in a mass sing-a-long.

Thanks must go to Don for organizing and to Mike for being a marvelous guest of honour.

The mixed eights event saw a controversial win for the crew of six men and two women over three evenly matched crews. But as Caster Semenya has proved, gender is just something that’s written on your birth certificate. The focus then turned to boat-naming, where Trevor finally named four of the fleet of launches he has kindly purchased for the club over the years. Formerly affectionately known as 199, 299 and so on, they were baptised with a splash of champagne and dedicated to longstanding deceased Vesta members.

And so the fleet was named:

The celebration continued well into the night with the senior women’s long-awaited 90s party, featuring guest appearances from Ab Fab, Where’s Wally, Baywatch, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Pulp Fiction, The Matrix… all fuelled by copious amounts of Archers, blue WKDs and Bacardi Breezers. But it was all too much for some.
